This makes no sense to me. There’s people in the comments literally telling me to go kill myself and that’s fine but, me politely disagreeing is worthy of a 30 day ban.

    People of Lemmy,

I see more and more toxic behaviour here. I get that this war/conflict gets to us. And everyone has strong opinions and the debate is emotional. But it reminds me more of the toxic atmosphere that used to be part of Twitter.

I suppose the mods of political communities are having a bad day since the conflict escalated. And they are part of the debate, sometimes maybe making their decisions emotional, instead of neutral and based on reason alone. I -personally- think a 30-day is a lot, even if it is spreading misinformation. But I didn’t have a look at the facts here.

Judging by your comments in general, you seem quite an argumentative person. I usually don’t like people focusing on negativity and (for example) debunking a single argument out of a post and then concluding they’re right and someone else is entirely wrong. It leads to us having unproductive and stressful conversations, once we manoeuvre ourselves to opposing sides that lose the ability to communicate productively and grasp the bigger picture and the context that things are set in.

So. Please whoever is in the right or wrong, make Lemmy a nice place and not a clone of the toxicity and argumentativeness on Twitter. And don’t yell at people too much.

OP, please be aware you’re often a very argumentative person and a big part of your way of talking to people is opposing them.

I’m well aware of that. It’s the reason I’m on Lemmy on the first place. I love a good, long debate but I still try and be polite and listen to the counter-arguments and engage with what people are saying instead of attacking them as a person.

Judging by the comments here, I’d say it isn’t working. (That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily your fault at this point.)

All I want to say is: You and the people outright attacking you here are setting the tone of the conversation. I don’t feel entitled to lecture anyone on how to spend their time on the internet. For me, this thread is too toxic and not my vision of what Lemmy should be like.

Unfortunately, the really toxic people have arrived here, targeting you and spreading hate. I don’t think this going to become a productive conversation after that. And I really don’t have good advice here. I’m going to flag the comments that are hatred and then I’m out. I’m going to focus on some more productive things somewhere else. I wish you the best. Hope Lemmy strives to become a space for diverse opinions, constructive debate and not hatred and small-mindedness.

B-but I just want to have a civil debate about why genocide is ok, why won’t anyone be nice to me? Wyahhhhh, such toxicity! People are so small minded if they can’t accept ethnic cleansing :(

There’s a user in this thread calling us the genocide deniers while Israel unceasingly and unrepentantly destroys Gaza and its people. Like. No self awareness. No historical awareness. Just ‘Oh I have a more nuanced view of the situation’. Nuance my fucking gooch.

It’s only ever the whites going to bat for Israel’s commission of genocide, too-- why? Because what Israel’s doing is 1:1 with what the colonizer pilgrims did to America. So no, I am never going to support that; because given my way, my lineage NEVER would’ve been stolen by crackers in the first place. I’d rather still fuckin be Afrikan than have to be lumped in with these murderous settlers.

Dudes, Duderinas and people from all around… While I said something in the meta-debate here, I’m not engaging in the underlying argument. What are you trying to accomplish here? The people you are talking about are suffering horrible atrocities. All you can think about is hating on each other on the internet… (There has to be a better way to deal with the situation.)

I don’t mind a disagreement. Not at all. Infact I enjoy a good debate as long as both parties are doing it in good faith. This thread isn’t about that.

If it makes you feel better. I also reserve judgement until more information is out. The counter arguments as to why it wouldn’t be Israel does make sense to me. Lack of crater. Hospital walls intact. Hamas were firing rockets over the hospital. And the death figure is reported by Hamas. Most likely incredibly inflated.

Since when was recognized terror organisations reliable sources?

because it is at best a crank conspiracy theory.

[and yes you should do it]

and yes bombing hospitals does make sense, Israel has done it in the past. In fact, the same hospital was ‘warning’ bombed just 2 days ago

    https://twitter.com/AVHospital/status/1713543149774160099

    https://avh.org/content/news-and-events/gaza-hospital-hit-by-israeli-rockets-urgent-evacuation-ordered.html

    October 15th:

Yesterday, at 7:00 PM, Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, which is our partner in the Diagnostic Cancer Treatment Center, was hit by two Israeli rockets. Fortunately, the extent of the damage was limited.

Today, the hospital has received orders from Israeli authorities to evacuate the facility, including patients, staff, and 3,000 Gazan people who have sought shelter within the hospital’s premises.

We call the international community and all humanitarian organizations to take action to prevent the evacuation orders for Al Ahli Arab Hospital and the other 22 hospital, as this action poses a significant risk to the lives of numerous patients.

here is a 2014 article regarding Israel bombing hospitals

    https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2014/07/israelgaza-attacks-medical-facilities-and-civilians-add-war-crime-allegations/

The third floor of the Al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah was struck by Israeli shelling, killing four people and wounding dozens, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health spokesperson.

“Today’s attack on the Al-Aqsa hospital is the latest in a series of attacks on and near medical facilities in Gaza, which have been struggling to cope with thousands of injured people since the Israeli offensive began on 8 July,” said Philip Luther, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Amnesty International.

Lemmy isn’t a place for debates and arguments. If you don’t follow the direction of the topic, don’t bother inserting yourself into the conversation.
You need to be nice and supportive of whatever is posted, else you’re going to have a bad time.

Read their code of conduct and you’ll find that it’s a moderator’s discretion to ban anyone they believe is disruptive, regardless of the rules.
So unless a moderator goes on a deranged banning binge, you’re automatically in the wrong.
If you can’t accept that, i suggest you make your own instance, with blackjack and hookers.

From their point of view, only you think there’s something to be solved.
A major point of federization is not having to deal with the undesirable rabble. To have your own little slice of the internet where everybody gets along.

You don’t get along, so you don’t belong. Instead, you are very welcome to find or make an instance where you do belong and can engage in conversations freely.

Lemmy’s solution is to make the problem go away, which is why in its eyes, there is nothing to solve.

I’m really sorry for what happened to you. And I’m really disappointed because lemmy allows fascist instances and fascist friendly instances to stay, like lemmy.ml, the bears, the grads, and others. Why can’t they just leave like exploding-heads did? Why right fascism is bad and left fascism is good, when fascism is fascism after all?

The argument for it being Israel:

        • Israel has complete air superiority
        • Israel is conducting a bombing campaign against Gaza
        • Israel has threatened to attack hospitals
        • Israel has previously bombed hospitals
        • Israel has previously bombed this exact hospital
        • The audio and visual characteristics of the bomb and the damage caused (captured by multiple, independent observers) match with a JDAM guided bomb, which Israel has already used
        • Israeli sources first claimed the hospital was a Hamas base or had Hamas tunnels or arms caches, before rapidly rolling back their position to “we didn’t do it”
        • It is clearly in Israel’s interest to kill Palestinians and destroy Palestinian infrastructure, especially medical services and supplies, because they are conducting a genocide

The argument for it being Hamas:

        • Israel says it was

Reddit, or rather reddit-logo, is controlled by the US security state, so r/combatfootage - which banned all combat footage from Palestinian viewpoints - is not a reliable source. The idea that a ‘rocket piece’ could accidentally fall on a hospital and kill 500 people (a number reported by a first-hand MSF witness) is laughably absurd. If a Hamas rocket could cause this kind of damage, Tel Aviv would look like the surface of the fucking moon. It was OBVIOUSLY another genocidal act by the entity continuously and overtly engaged in genocidal acts. To think otherwise requires you to want to fall for their propaganda. No one in full possession of their faculties looking at the facts dispassionately could possibly conclude it was anything else.

If it was JDAM then where are the pictures of the leveled hospital/crater? Where are the pictures of 500 dead people? That’s A-grade propaganda material for Hamas so why isn’t it all over the internet? All I’m seeing is this picture which judging by the fence and tree is from outside aswell as this with a matching fence, couple burnt cars and some damaged roofing tiles. Ofcourse there’s also the video posted by IDF of aerial footage which matches that picture from the parking lot and shows a very much intanct hospital building.

EDIT: Here’s a video from that same parking lot. I wonder why they aren’t filmin the leveled hospital instead.

EDIT2: Well here’s some dead bodies aswell. Not sure if it’s related to the same incident, but atleast it’s something. Be aware, VERY DISTURBING footage.
