A few weeks ago, I was elected as a mod of [email protected] . If you visit the community from lemmy.ml, my username is listed as a mod. But not from any other instance. In particular, if I log in with my sopuli account, I don’t have access to mod tools.
I contacted the sopuli admins, and they told me that it was most likely an issue with federating the mod info, and that it might get re-federated at a later time. But it doesn’t seem to be the case. So is there any way to re-federate and get access to mod tools?
Thanks in advance
There are bugs in Lemmy right now about remote-home-remote instances, moderator actions seem to be one of the most common, as are deletes of comments (but edit of comments works fine). If the community is homed at lemmy.ml, and a change is made on an instance other than that, the code doesn’t federate it to the other 1500 instances who might have subscribed to that community. There are some open issues on GitHub going back weeks about some of the issues. I gave a heads up on some of the issues on [email protected]
I am actively working on a series of tests to demonstrate these problems. Right now I’m waiting on more critical performance server-crash issues to get merged.
Best bet is to have another mod remove you as a mod and then re-add you.
The problem is that the only other mod has been inactive for two years. So I need some intervention from the admins, I guess.
This bug has now hopefully been fixed, and should work with next release:
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3460
It possibly is because there is an error with one of the mod accounts already existing. You could request they remove old admins if they are inactive and this may help to push across the mods. Otherwise, it’s waiting for the next release.
