Is there a Lemmy community for game preservation and decompilation? Or is this community the best at getting news like this for now? :)

They talk about Apple products, but that’s not something I concern myself about. I just like vibing with Grey’s beautiful mind
He’s still in the Cortex podcast :)
CGP Grey might be one of the most interesting people to ever have lived. I cannot get enough of his podcasts. I still miss Hello Internet dearly.
Where in my comment does it state that I don’t pay indie devs?
I spend money on Steam, but I have no illusions* that I’m not owning the things I get there.
I’d much rather have a title on GOG than Steam. At least there I get to keep it.
I was thinking of sites like GOG when I wrote my comment.
I have never heard of a Steam game you could run without having Steam installed
Buy second hand.
In my country first party titles go for $60 and all the way to $90
Second hand prices for these are often between $30 and $40.
And you can always sell those used games, and not really lose much (if any) money in the process.
Ps. Prices will fall even more when Switch 2 comes out next year. Hopefully it will be a repeat of the post-Wii days, where most Wii games were dirt cheap.
I purchased it purely as an all-in-one indie game player for the television, that had a nice form factor. Was easy to connect with controllers, and relatively high-end.
I don’t really like playing on it’s joysticks and buttons, but that doesn’t matter when I only really use it docked.
It’s nice with a relatively high-end console when on the go. I usually bring a controller along for this, though.
It was expensive, but performs exactly as advertised.
Have I got some good news for you then.
One cannot buy digital content with DRM, only rent it.
It’s impossible to regret acquisitions you’ve never made.
Point in case. You can sell on your physical games. Not so much the digital ones.
All that said, I too use Steam, just not mainly anymore.
Edit: Holy smokes did this blow up! I’m happy to drive engagement here on the fediverse, albeit I do believe I struck a nerve. Either that, or some people have poor reading capabilities - I see the comments refuting something I haven’t said.
Really considering moving my main computer to Linux with the way things are going
The post clearly asked for the worst names, not the very best /s
Buy used.
The disk-less “cheaper” PS5 is 100% the more expensive option.
Also, if you buy a new game you’ll have the option to sell it on, recovering some of your initial investment.
Na na, na na na na, na na na Katamari Damacy
Climbing / bouldering
I concur with most other people in this thread. Any exercise will do wonders. This is coming from a guy who’s been into nerdy stuff my entire life - getting into a rhythm of actually wanting to do exercise is alfa omega.
I’m throwing bouldering into the pool of options. I’ve heard people with ADHD often get really into it because it is easy to get into, and does not demand a lot of prep work.
It can be expensive some places, but if the thing makes me work out without me even “knowing it” then it’s worth the money for me.
Not op, but really interested in the sport.
What would one do when there are no mountains around them?
Sincerely,
Someone in a >flat< country 🇩🇰
I’ve found that I’ve progressively stated making better grabs as I’ve been training - I’ll keep your advise in mind.
Atm. I’m not even starting building up callouses. I’m considering maybe taking a week’s break to rest my hands - but I’m feeling like I’ll regress if I do this.
Probably I’m going to do “chin ups” on the wall to get better upper body / arm strength. Often when I’m struggling, I seem to get the most torn up hands.
I appreciate your advise!
Just started climbing a little over a month ago.
Hella fun and video gamey - but my god damn nimble hands keep getting torn up. I’m putting on tape on the afflicted areas, but other areas will then become a problem.
I’m thinking that I need to just continue. At some point, my skin must start learning that it has to toughen up.
Btw. Are there any good climbing communities in the fediverse?
Please elaborate.
Are you referring to the handheld zapper or the blue light one?
The handheld surely must work? You just need a small enough mesh to create a contact between the two iron “wires”
Could a blue light trap work? Idk how mosquitoes work compared to flies.
I read somewhere that smelly cheese attracts the flying leeches. Maybe placing some bait, and swat them when they’ve fallen into your trap.
I better yet, zap them. Swatting mid-air is hard. I’ve begun catching them with my hands. Better success rate, as they then don’t get blown out the way by the fly swatter’s air current.
Ps. I’ve read about some people having invented an infrared light beam that will fry them mid air. Idk if it’s safe, or even something to purchase - just throwing ideas out there.
Pps. If you wanna go totally bananas, you could paint your entire room white, and decorate like a minimalist. They’d have nowhere to hide.
Isn’t Hit and Run like 20 years old? When is a game retro for you?
