It’s not about the distro. Most distros out right now are pretty good. What you need is hardware that lots of people want to buy with Linux installed on it as the default choice. Normal people don’t want to install any OS, be it Linux, Windows, MacOS or BSD. Whatever comes by default, it’s good.

I’m pretty sure that right now the most popular Linux distros are ChromeOS and SteamOS. I wonder why

  • Then you need some friends. On the how to acquire one, there are a few ways. One of the most effective outside of school or work is to join some club, some class or some sport activity. For instance, I joined a latin dance class lately (salsa, bachata) and I’ve met lots of very friendly people. Every Friday they also organize a night out to some local clubs to dance, and there you can meet lots of other people with a similar interest. It’s just an example though, pick something interesting, join a group of people etc.

You just need to be proactive. Staying all day in your room commiserating yourself is definitely not sexy

  • So you spend your entire day either working/studying or staring at a blank wall?

Btw, it doesn’t really matter if you do something actually interesting, it’s the attitude that counts. I’ve tried doing the same thing/going to the same event with different people, some very positive and outgoing, and some very negative, and the experience has been very very different.

If your attitude is “I’m not interesting, and I don’t do anything interesting” then guess what, you won’t be interesting to anyone around you. Btw, going to the pub for a beer can be very interesting. Walking somewhere can be interesting.

    Have you read the report?

I haven’t read it all, but from reading like a couple paragraphs it says that the Chinese government is making mass incarcerations with accusations of extremism and terrorism, while these terms are not well defined and it appears that they are only targeting Muslims for their religion. Furthermore in these jails it appears that the Chinese government is doing things like forced injections, forcing people to take pills and other classics like torture, waterboarding and rape, invasive gynecological exams etc.

Inmates are forbidden to pray with guards making rounds at night to ensure compliance, being forbidden to speak their own language or practice anything from their culture. Prominent scholars, artists and intellectuals are being incarcerated, people are forbidden to leave the region or to receive or send money from the outside.

If it were Israel doing this, and they are doing this, you’d call it genocide, wouldn’t you?

Or doesn’t Uyghurstan have the same right to exist as Palestine?

  • I don’t think that’s realistic. Even the guy at the local market shouting “get your potatoes here” is technically advertisement.

What could work instead is to make both the company that advertises and the one that displays the ad liable for the ad itself. If it’s inappropriate, contains malware or is in any way malicious, the company displaying it should also be liable for endangering the customers. Also outlaw tracking for advertisement purposes altogether

  • I work for a plastic recycling plant manufacturer, specifically for the sorting, shredding, cleaning and drying steps of plastic recycling (after that you usually have melting and extrusion before ending up with small plastic pellets that can be used to make other stuff).

I can confirm you, we have “cycling filtered grey water” cleaning. You don’t need to clean up your plastic containers, just empty them. Also various chemicals will be used in the process, when necessary.

We also make de-labelers to remove the labels from plastic bottles, although this kind of label in the picture is extremely hard to remove and, afaik, either requires human labor (aka poor countries with labor conditions you don’t want to think about) or just becomes waste. So yeah, this is some of the worst shit.
