  • I’m not the guy you replied to, but MS fonts are kinda free to download. Not free enough they can just put them into a package but there’s a defined method for downloading them. Most distros have a package that will automatically do this. On Debian it’s ttf-mscorefonts-installer which will download the fonts and install them when it gets to the configuration part of the package install. You can probably search for a similar package for your distro.

  • Give a discount on food purchases so long as people agree to having every purchase tracked abd their data sold to marketing companies so they can figure out how to manipulate people into buying more shit they don’t need.

People’s food purchases are already scanned in before they buy them, so all that’s needed is to get people to scan in some kind of card to connect their purchases to their identity. A small discount can be offered so people will fill out a form connecting their identity to the card and then every time they scan the card with their purchases we can track everything they buy forever.

Oh wait, that’s actually already commonplace.,

  • There’s way too much money in the hands of the wealthy. What are they going to do with it all? Invest in the stock market. All the good investments are overvalued. All the bad investments are have been saturated too. What else can they do with all of that money. They gotta put it somewhere.

So they put excess money into real estate. So the price of real estate has been driven up so much that it’s over valued like any other avenue of investment.

The stock prices being overvalued isn’t good but isn’t something that’ll affect regular people. But their real estate investments being over valued? Well that real estate isn’t an investment to someone that simply needs a place to live.

And that’s the problem, the price of housing is priced above what the people what people outside of the investor class can afford. And the investor class wants a return on their investment in the overprices real estate (that they collectively drove the price up on) so charge a lot for rent. Of course maybe if people moved to another area that would put downward pressure on the rent prices. But AirBnB is there so if this happens they can still get income from that when no one can afford the insanely high rent.

So the overarching problem is the wealthy have wayyy too much money and are dumping their excess wealth into real estate and pricing people that just need a place to live out of the market. AirBnB isn’t the cause of the problem but it makes the problem worse.

One of many problems caused by the unwillingness to simply tax the wealthy.

  • In his ruling, the judge even suggested that X/Twitter’s litigation had chilled other types of research into disinformation online. He pointed to a recent survey of 167 academics and researchers that “found that over 100 studies about X Corp. have been diverted, stalled, or canceled, with over half of those interviewed citing a fear of being sued by X Corp. over their findings or data.”

The case was dismissed, because obviously. The case never had a chance of succeeding, the whole point was to create a chilling effect to make other people hesitant of criticizing him.

It wasn’t about Musk making someone pay the consequences for misrepresenting the truth. It’s entirely about the “free speech absolutist” using paper terrorism to silence criticism.

Sorry, your boy isn’t what he says he is.

Maybe that’s how you animals in your “galactic community” operate, but be careful… a lot of people in these parts eat animals for breakfast. For your own self preservation you might want to come up with some reasons why you’re more than just an animal before we get to barbecue season.

  • It can be useful in learning the basics of technology that’s completely unfamiliar to you.

It’s kinda like how it’s fine to use a wikipedia article as a starting point for research on a subject. But it’s not a good idea to use wikipedia as an authoritative source on a subject.

It’s also useful as a reminder for for technology you haven’t used in a while. You can fairly quickly get the ordering of the parameters of a well known method and be on your way a lot faster than a google search or going back through your code to find where you’ve done it before.

It’s also good for mundane tasks like making a class that’ll handle a specific JSON request or handle some data coming from a table in the DB. You know the things where you’re just copying and pasting some property names and entering the corresponding types. Just put in “class for: {“blah”: 69 }” or whatever and save a little time.

But yeah it’s not going to know anything too technical, it’s not going to know anything about less common problems, it’s not going to know the best algorithm to use, etc. But if you’re just using it for some basic ass shit, it works well enough.

  • Cuba is doing much better than most Latin American countries. In most areas it’s doing MUCH better.

I was just in Cuba last year. A doctor makes $35 per month. The cab to the airport cost almost that much. A cab drive makes more than a doctor’s monthly salary from two fares. Their money is ridiculously screwed up. The official exchange rate is something around 24 CUP to the dollar. But at the airport it’s like 1/3 that value. And in the black market it’s 1/6 that value. People live in poverty while the government buildings are immaculate marvels. The people I talked with there know how messed up the country is.

China is doing infinitely better than any other comparable country, like India.

You mean the country where capitalism is thriving and labour unions are illegal? Where billionaires dominate the ruling party? China is communist in name only.

The USSR was also doing much better than any country in a comparable situation when it did exist.

It was doing great… until it collapsed? Great success story!

Sorry but whatever you’re reading isn’t very accurate.
