This is so other people are less likely to see that you have L and R for your socks. Yes, I know these are probably inside your shoe, but some people wear socks and sandals.

There’s a lot of trolls and bad people out there. When talking to people or debating someone, a handy tip is to try to assume the other person is acting in good faith until they give you a reason to doubt them. That way you’re not attacking a person for asking a legitimate question.

Just recovering from surgery right now. I was terrified going in, but the actual surgery was simple. They give you anesthesia and you fall asleep before you even realize they started it, and wake up what feels like seconds later in recovery. You’ll be sore afterwards but the pain medication keeps the pain to a low or acceptable level.

Just remember, the surgery is necessary and in the long run you’ll feel much better.

It’s so much better than before, but mainly if you’re in the US.

It’s my preferred map for driving; it looks nicer, the voice navigation sounds better and it suits what I need.

Because people are not caricatures and don’t have 100% agreement with one political side or another. That’s why you have some Democrats who oppose gun control and some Republicans who support abortion. Politics is a spectrum, not something to pidgeonhole people into.

Not this again. Just because you can end a war faster by intentionally targeting civilians doesn’t mean it’s ever going to be moral or ethical. The U.S. government considers that act terrorism by definition.

When I joined mastodon, all the talk was about “the bird site.” It fades over a few weeks.

The airport clerk at the lost luggage counter. I’ve watched dozens of people run over to wait in line, then to shout at him when it’s their turn, their flight was cancelled or redirected without their bags, they’re going to sue his company and demand he reimburses their entire vacation, all before he even opens his mouth. And then the next person has the same story and they have to spill the entire thing out again.

The clerk looks tremendously beaten down, and just answers the customers with robotic answers, “please fill out the form, the airline will contact you within 24 hours. Please fill out the form, the airline will contact you within 24 hours.”

Great but there’s some frustrations. My instance appears overloaded and often voting or commenting fails. I’m also using alpha software so it’s unstable. And the communities are much tinier and quieter.

I’m sure in a few weeks there will be some big improvements. Early mastodon was like this too.
