I was working in the IT admin office for a time while doing software development, and got to witness this guy who came in to have his laptop fixed/swapped; and he said “You guys don’t like, check the laptops for files and stuff, right?”.

And the IT guy was legendary, didn’t skip a beat, was like “Nah, nah, we don’t have time for that crap.”.

As soon as the guy was out of the room, we checked his laptop’s files.

Porn. So much porn. Like, gigs of it, and this was in the early 2000’s when that meant a lot.

We went to HR, and they called him up and reviewed, and SOMEHOW, he dodged the bullet and they retained him. The reason? It was his porn. You read that right. He had gigs of porn of him banging his stripper GF on his laptop, and because it wasn’t “downloaded” porn, he got off.

Then a month later he was let go when he was found taking pictures with his cell phone over the cubicle wall of a female employee without her knowledge.

But I’ll never forget the mental gymnastics that happened to convince HR that porn only meant pictures of “other people” being naked, not himself and his GF.

Economics is poorly understood by the vast majority of Americans. To most people, it is purely political.

Got about 2/3rds of the way through it and violently set it down. I love books too much to set it on fire, but I wanted to. It was the worst pile of shit I’ve ever read in my life. Completely divorced from reality.

And she died penniless and depending on the support of the same social services that she demonized in her book to convince people that capitalist leaders are paragons of humanity and the rest of us are just peons.

Look, I don’t know what to tell you here. You’re downvoting me (or someone is) because you’re not understanding the point of what they’re doing. That’s ok, but it’s not ok to claim victory here because you don’t understand the point of what they’re doing, or you’re not knowledgeable about the intricacies of the retro gaming/emulation world.

It’s not to make an emulator for the general public. It’s to take an original board, and put it into a SFF (Small Form Factor) and have a perfect, 1:1 system that can play any Saturn game. Any game. No chipset issues. And it looks like an original Saturn, just smaller.

This appeals to a very specific set of people who care about compatibility and functionality of the games they’re playing.

It’s not a general emulator or general device. If you want one of those, you can already build one.

It’s a thing that does exactly what it says it does. And it appeals to a very specific type of crowd. Which is, apparently, not you. That’s ok. But don’t trash it just because you don’t understand it.

You can do a perfect ROM compression of the games you own on disk (or find one someone else did), and then play them on this sega saturn console and achieve 100% compatibility with the original game. This is not something an emulator can do. It can get close, but it will not reach 100% without the original hardware/chipset (usually).

Not exactly. Emulating the board and chipset is where a lot of emulation issues show up. ROMs are generally pretty easy to serialize/copy around. It’s the chipset/boards that are tricky and generally requires the boards being destroyed when reverse engineering them to figure out how to emulate the chipset features.

This would be a “perfect” emulation of any Saturn ROM/Game/whatever.

That can only be done with original hardware. Emulators get close, but all they can ever get is “close”. New versions of the emulator chipsets come out to address and fix bugs or API issues that are discovered later as additional games are played on the emulator.

It’s why not all games run on all emulators. There’s a lot of subsets based on chip compatibility and specifically, how close it is to the original thing that will only work on some subset of games; and you might need a different emulator to run the other games for a platform because of compatibility issues.

So, again, this is not an emulator.

This is the real deal. Just smaller.

Running a ROM on it is not emulating. It’s running a game file on the original hardware, and the compatibility will be 100%, instead of some smaller % that an emulated board/chipset would have.

The point is to attempt it and do it with the original hardware without “trimming” the board.

It’s an exercise in space management, not emulation.

The issue comes down to imperialism imo.

Western societies have an imperialist belief that we should be at the head of the table when it comes to the world order, politics, and having a say about what happens outside of our borders.

This is ingrained in all of us from a very young age by design. They’ve been doing it for millennia, and it’s been working pretty well, so no need to change tactics.

It’s also why non-western nation-states aren’t as involved directly in the politics of other nations. It’s not really a part of their ethos as a culture.

This was literally an “Ask Lemmy” question, which pulls on individual personal experience for responses, so I’m not sure what else you would have been expecting.

I work with MBAs all day every day. Nonstop. They’re the vast majority of my touchpoints as a lifelong software engineer/DBA that manages several teams. I’ve been in the industry for 25+ years and have worked for multiple large (enterprise tier) medium, and small (startup) companies across multiple states including owning my own consulting company and interfaced directly with C-types that held nothing but MBAs.

So, not uninformed, but it is anecdotal. In the sense that this matches my life experience for 25+ years of working closely with MBA types on hundreds of projects during that time. Someone else might have different experiences. But I’m here answering their question so I’m going to talk about my experiences.

There’s plenty of MBA holders that are pragmatic and “normal”. However, at the top level, MBAs either attract, or turn people into narcissistic sociopaths, because the majority of narcissistic sociopaths I know and have worked with, hold MBAs.

Edit: Rather than being full snark (it was a genuinely funny question though), I’ll give a more thoughtful answer. The reason the answer is no, is because MBAs tend to attract narcissistic sociopaths. And the first thing they do in this situation, is blame someone else, not the degree, but the specific person.

“If only he was a better MBA he would have kept the company focused on its core values”. That sort of thing.

The thing a degree that’s held by the majority of Narcissists and Sociopaths in the world absolutely won’t do, is inflect.
