I always always write strong feedback and extensive bug reporting for games. Doesn’t matter the platform. However, my daily is Linux and my daytime job is director for cloud eng and ops which is all linux distros. We write and manage massive nix fleets. Shit my career started writing and doing linux kernel work. It really made me appreciate good feedback and extensive reports on bugs.

Sorry CompTIa is fucking garbage. In all my years at faangs, startups, Silicon Valley ycombinators, mid west tech, have I ever hired or worked with someone who has comptia certs.

Is it a good start to level 1 help desk at a hospital? Maybe. But I feel like it’s a fucking scheme where the time to learn any language instead would make you leagues better. Or study and get Cisco certs instead for neteng.

I’ll add it’s not that I chose not to hire CompTIa cert people. But I think in my 15 years I have never seen one come across the desk. The only time I saw it on a resume was level 1 help desk at a shop that thought Windows ME was the best release at the time and should be used in all rural hospitals and it was 2006 and anything beyond it was full of bloatware.

As an engineer with years of experience in tech with more in kernel engineering there is only one distro you should use.

The one you like! Debian is great, solid, with a major market share in servers and cloud infra, with a lot of great distros broken from it for consumer use. RHEL distros are great as well but not that practice for personal use imo.

Pick something like Pop or Ubuntu for daily use and then get docker to play with other more cloud infra distros like ubuntu server, centos, aml, and get web services running through those if you want to expand your knowledge.
