  • Marked spoiler for potential vibe harshing

    spoiler

It might be a mix of a lot of things. The Palestinian Genocide, Ukrainian War, Chinese Expansion, actual probable chance of a second Trump Presidency, and a great many other issues are probably weighing heavy on the minds of net denizens. That and less sunlight than in the summer months.

Plus I’ve never seen any posts from a Foodporn or cute pets lemmy community, but I have seen crimes against the culinary arts and some posts about pets that have died.

People are just not feeling optimistic, and that leads to feelings of repression and anger.

  • Most people don’t know this but the USPS has their own official stamp for that purpose and any marked or drawn on letters they receive likely go to the trash. Try attaching a sticky note and putting it in the outgoing mail, or talking to the post office directly (although many offices go to great lengths not to give you time).

TLDR: Don’t write on the envelope or it won’t be returned.

  • In general fast food and restaurant food are overpriced compared to home made food, and the working class often don’t have time between locations during the day. Also, like 40+% of the population in many developed nations are elderly now.

The reason people splurge on greasy junk food covered in sauce is never because it is a reasonable option, but because it’s an option our monkey brains are willing to make the most sacrifices for.

Democracy at risk? Earthquake destroying homes? Drought threatening thousands? Sure we could pitch in $5 for that, or instead we could get the Large meal and an extra Fries…

EDIT: I think my hypothetical was decent and important, but I don’t want anybody to feel ashamed to eat. Enjoying food is necessary for happiness and abstaining from so can be detrimental to mental and physical health.

  • Statistically people are happier and healthier than any time in history. Even if you don’t like politics, the vast majority of policy passed in places like the USA and EU does improve life there. The dictators like Ji Xinping and Vladimir Putin are past their prime by a long shot. The children of the rich vocally hate their parents. People at the highest level of power are being held to high standards and made responsible for their crimes.

The one statistically noteworthy thing there is to worry about is Climate Change, sadly 2022 was a new high for total emissions in billion tons, but the next generation wants to do away with cars, with fossil fuels, with nonrecyclables entirely so if we can just survive that crisis it should be all good.

Even Gun Violence is just a rounding error probability that it would affect you at all. Something like ~0.00003125% of the total global population died from firearms in 2019, admittedly that percentage goes up in places like the USA, Mexico, and St Kitts, but it’s pretty negligible for the everyday life of the average person. I’m sorry if it sounds like I’m diminishing the problem here, but I think you can want to fix the problem without worrying how it affects you personally.
