I think it’s more common for people to rotate which service they’re subscribed to each month.

But piracy is still increasing in popularity.

It can be as simple as running a VPN on your computer, and downloading torrents through a torrent app on the same computer. Then you can just watch the videos you download however you like.

If you want a Netflix-like interface for what you’ve downloaded, run Plex or Jellyfin and point them to your downloads. Get the plex or jellyfin app on your tv, tablet, phone, etc as well. The app will see plex running on your computer and you’re good to go.

You can keep getting more advanced depending on what you want. For example you can use apps like Sonarr and Radarr to automatically send movies and shows to your download app as they come out. You can also use things like Bazarr to automatically get subtitles. Tdarr to encode what you download if you want to do something like make sure everything works on your tv and a specific streaming stick (eg: roku).

And on and on.

I use all of that, and have it set up through docker on a server which has access to a giant NAS for storing the files.

I think animals should have more rights already. It’d be nice if they could talk or something to help people realize they’re actually living things worthy of empathy.

But to your point, cats and dogs are already among the better-treated animals in large parts of the world.

Compared to animals who get farmed (especially factory farmed), or get the death sentence label of a pest or invasive species.

We have our place on the planet purely by right of conquest.

It’s fundamentally immoral what we do to animals but people just ignore it, accept it as a necessary evil, or somehow block the empathy from their brain applying to animals.

I was trying to agree with you overall in my first comment. That no matter what they try to do, there will be a way around it. Even if it’s as extreme as using a camera to make the copy.

Desktop OS on a tablet is fine and even preferred depending on what you want it for.

I have a surface and don’t mind using full windows that way.

I’m sure it’s the reason many get it, but I also think there’s a large audience for a tablet without one.

It’s fundamentally impossible to grant read access without copy. And you can always do whatever you want to your copy.

I’ve seen that about Ubuntu a few times. Can someone provide me with a TLDR or a good summary article of what’s happened to them? Also is it their server stuff too or just desktop? (I use Ubuntu on my home server and have for years)

There is no reason what you describe should give rise to consciousness rather than a biological artificial intelligence. The sense of self, the perspective that feels like me peering out through my eyes, is not explained by anything you said.

A copy of me does not equal me because we’d both have separate senses of self. Having copied memories does nothing to affect that.

Consciousness is not based on memory or else computers would be considered conscious.

And if according to what you’re saying, a clone with all of your memories would mean you have two points of view. I could take your clone into a different room and you’d be able to tell me what they see. But it obviously wouldn’t work like that because your own sense of self would still be locked in your head and the clone would get its own sense of self, albeit one with the same memories.

So you’d be fine with a scientist creating a perfect clone of you, and then killing you, letting the clone take your place?
