In my experience people in the Northeast US pretty much never refer to New York City as just ‘New York’. New York will mean the state, they will say ‘the city’ or ‘NYC’ to differentiate from the state. Or they will say upstate to mean the rest of the state outside of NYC metro area.

It appears so, it was called other things by native people but the Dutch seem to be the first to call it Long Island in the 1600s. Many geographic features in the area have similar sort of names, like Short Hill, East River, West River, Indian Hill, Short Beach, Beaver Swamp, the colonists really weren’t very clever with their naming.

In NY state it essentially means anywhere north of NYC, the capital city Albany is upstate NY. It doesn’t seem to mean north of the capital in any state unless that capital is at the southern part.

They state they don’t have a gaming computer and play it through geforce now, is that actually possible for free?

Well yes, I am part of the ‘radical left’, and proudly so, by that mean I believe in healthcare, food and a place to live for all people regardless of any qualifier and think the political/economic systems in place now will not achieve that.

I agree the average conservative is not a believer in that sort of antisemitism, but it’s not uncommon. In the terms of US politics, social media platforms do have a left bias, from a more global perspective though they are center or center-right, and overall just do whatever will protect their profits. Reddit, Twitter, others will ban left-wing and anti-capitalist groups and allow their algorithms to push content they know encourages far-right violence because it generates more activity.

I don’t think most of us here are laughing, a motivating factor to move away from places like Instagram and Reddit for me was their habit of ignoring far-right activity while punishing left activity. Some of us here are active on the internet in part because we know there are a lot of Nazis active too.

It’s kind of baffling how we accept this as pretty much the standard for major releases these days. Why would we be okay buying anything else like this? If I bought a pair of shoes and they had issues that made them unwearable until I got them repaired I would be irritated as fuck, and obviously this would be unacceptable for a store to sell them like that.

No bikes??? I hadn’t heard that, one of the most satisfying things about playing C:S1 to me was making great bike routes and useful public transit, without bikes I really don’t feel a drive to play this one now honestly hah. Maybe they are going the Sims route where all the useful basic things they added in the previous edition will be released over time as DLC, ffs.

You can usually ask for more time with a book if that is a real deal breaker. That has been an option at libraries I’ve used anyway. Sometimes they can get books they don’t have if you request them too. Some even mail them to your house. I’m not really trying to convince you or anything I just think libraries are awesome haha.

Damn thank you for inspiring me, I saw the ‘3d print case’ and was like ehh, but thinking about making a wood case for this sounds sick.

It sounds wild to think about making your own electronic device, but after getting into woodworking I think it could be simpler to build this than a quality birdhouse lol.

It’s designed to be build-able by anyone and extensible, so it should be repairable by the average consumer. You can just hack kindle hardware as long as the device works but this project is trying to actually build something more sustainable.

Thinking for a second it wasn’t a typo, a land departure feature would be excellent, either flying or amphibious mode.

Shout out to the show Person of Interest, pretty clichéd crime/action show but gets good with AI, surveillance/police state and related themes. SLIGHT SPOILERS But basically a super intelligent AI was created in the pursuit of perfecting the surveillance state.
